The Institute of Neurodegenerative Diseases(IMN) is a new research center that has officially open its doors January 1st, 2011. The IMN is affiliated to the CNRS and the University of Bordeaux. The Aquitaine Regional Council (CRA) is a key partner in the IMN’s development, notably through the Neurocampus project. The IMN aims to encompass fundamental, preclinical and clinical research in the field of neurodegenerative diseases, with the goal of developing therapeutic approaches to neurodegenerative diseases using both vertical and translational approaches. We are fully aware that such an ambitious objective is often claimed by research units but is seldom satisfied. We consider however that our past achievements, obtained under a less favorable and structured environment, give rise to realistic optimism. ![]() |
The IMN is organized around four main research axes :
All teams have a proven track record of excellence at the international level and have demonstrated their capacity to secure funding. Although the IMN is a new project, it stems from long-term, solid collaborations between its members and at the same time will benefit from new members with diverse backgrounds that in particular reinforce its fundamental biological research capabilities in support of the laboratory’s clinical orientation. In this spirit, the IMN will pursue and expand close links with other key Neuroscience centers of excellence in Aquitaine, including disciplines in the other institutes of Neurocampus, the Neurocentre Magendie and the Interdisciplinary Institute for Neurosciences. |

The BRAIN project has been selected for funding in response to the Labex calls within the "investissements d'avenir". BRAIN, Bordeaux Region Aquitaine Initiative for Neuroscience, brings together 23 research teams and over 300 researchers with the aim to solve major issues in neuroscience.
